For eight years, Shaw Main Streets has worked to revitalize the commercial corridors of the Shaw neighborhood, which is anchored by the Washington Convention Center just north of downtown Washington, DC. The fruits of our labors are evident: over 80 new businesses have opened and others, some over a century old, serve new and different customers. Many storefronts and signs have been upgraded, sidewalks are clean, tree boxes have been improved with iron guards and plantings, and a diverse community of residents, business owners, church members, and other stakeholders work together on our projects.
Despite the area's positive trajectory, Shaw main Streets' services are needed now more than ever: the economy’s slow recovery has taken a toll on many of our businesses' stability, some storefronts remain empty, and several major developments currently underway will have adverse impacts on the neighborhood while under construction for the next few years. We need your financial support in order to continue guiding the Shaw community's renaissance.
