“Happy Birthday, Mr. President”: Shaw Celebrates the Birthday of Barack Obama, 08/04/17!

Shaw Main Streets and T Street Development will host an evening celebration of the birthday of the 44^th president of the United States, Barack H. Obama, on Friday, August 4, 2017, the president’s 56th birthday. This will be the first community event at The Cornerstone, an outdoor space for events, markets and more, at the intersection of T Street and Florida Avenue, NW, across from the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, DC’s Shaw neighborhood.

The evening will include music from the Obama summer playlists, an Obama impersonator, selfies with life sized cardboard figures of Mr. and Mrs. Obama, and a film screening of “Believe: The Barack Obama Story,” which chronicles the former president’s life story from his childhood in Hawai’i to his rise to the White House. Guests will also be able to sign a giant birthday card that will be presented to Mr. Obama afterwards.

Nearby Shaw restaurants and bars will offer Obama-themed food and beverage specials. Examples include: Pizza D’Oro at 717 T Street, NW, will offer a 12” Hawaiian pizza for $9.99 from 7-9 PM; Service Bar, at 926-928 U Street, NW, will present a special cocktail to toast Mr. Obama with; Kiss Lounge, 637 T Street, NW, will offer Obama Happy Hour Specials from 6-8 PM (Obama Wings and Fries (Buffalo and BBQ mix with Awaze sauce): $10; Obama Cocktail—Hennessy, orange and pineapple juice, and Sprite: $10; and Obama Hennessy Shots: $6. Hennessy Cognac created a special blend for Barack Obama's first inauguration); and Half Smoke, 651 Florida Avenue, NW, will offer 50% off drinks to customers mentiioning the event.

Entertainment will include DJ Black President aka DJ Black Santa, Obama Impersonator Larry Graves, and an outdoor screening of “Believe: The Story of Barack Obama.” Limited seating will be provided.
