INTRODUCING THE SHAW FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK: CELEBRATING LOCAL ARTISTS, MUSICIANS, AND SMALL BUSINESSES ON THE 600 BLOCK OF T STREET, NW

NEW MONTHLY EVENT TAKES PLACE ON “DUKE” ELLINGTON PLAZA, PRESENTED BY HOWARD THEATRE AND FRIENDS OF THE 600 BLOCK OF T STREET, NW, STARTING JUNE 2, 2023

Get ready to enjoy an evening of creativity, entertainment, and community spirit as Shaw First Friday Art Walk makes its debut on June 2, 2023. This monthly event, designed to celebrate and showcase the talent within our local artistic and business community, promises to become a new DC tradition. Admission is free, and no reservations or tickets are required.

On the first Friday of every month, Ellington Plaza, on the 600 block of T Street, NW, in front of the Howard Theatre, will transform into a dynamic hub of artistic expression. From 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to experience a captivating fusion of visual arts, live music, and small businesses, creating a truly immersive and engaging environment for all.

The Shaw First Friday Art Walk celebrates and supports our local artists. As you enjoy live entertainment, guests will encounter a diverse array of artists and makers, showcasing their creations in a variety of forms. Spend time engaging in conversations with the artists, learn about their inspirations, and perhaps even discover that one-of-a-kind piece to add to your personal collection.

In addition to the visual arts, the event will pulse to the rhythm of live music. From soothing acoustic tunes to energetic bands, the musical talents on display will cater to diverse tastes and ensure an inviting atmosphere for all attendees.

The Shaw First Friday Art Walk is not just about art and music; it's also a celebration of our local businesses. As you explore the event, take a moment to support our small business community. Browse through the unique retail, service, and food and beverage offerings, where you'll find a variety of goods and treats. By patronizing these businesses, you contribute to the thriving local economy and strengthen the bonds that hold our community together.

“The Shaw First Friday Art Walk is a demonstration of our commitment to fostering a sense of togetherness and unity within the Shaw community,” said Julie Seiler, general manager of the Howard Theatre. “It provides a platform for artists to showcase their work, musicians to share their talent, and small businesses to thrive. And it offers an opportunity for residents to come together, appreciate the arts, and forge meaningful connections with their neighbors.”

Everyone, young and old, is invited to come celebrate the vibrancy and creativity that defines our community. Be prepared to be inspired, entertained, and amazed.

In the event of inclement weather, the Shaw First Friday Art Walk for that day will be cancelled, but will return on the first Friday of the following month.
