Come Color and Celebrate Black History Month in Shaw!
Shaw Main Streets and the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Library will present a coloring book event in recognition of Black History Month on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Shaw library, located at 1630 7th Street, NW. The event is free and open to the public, and no reservations are required.
The event wil feature free copies of the "Shaw Heritage Coloring Book," which presents historic buildings in the neighborhood and the notable figures associated with them. Examples include The Howard Theatre and "Duke" Ellington, the Bethune Council House and Mary McLeod Bethune, and the Carter G. Woodson Home and its namesake.
Other historic figures from African American history that are depicted in the coloring book include Martin Luther King, Jr., A. Philip Randolph, Blanche K. Bruce, C. J. Walker, Dorothy Height, Alma Thomas, "Daddy" Grace, Elijah Muhammad, Ralph Bunche, Watha T. Daniel, and Walter Fauntroy.
Copies of the coloring book and crayons will be available free of charge, while supplies last.
So bring the kids for an afternoon of coloring fun and learning about our neighborhood and its history.
