Shaw Open House Returns October 7, 2017 with Family-Friendly Fun and Freebies from Dozens of Neighborhood Businesses!

 

One of Shaw Main Streets’ most popular neighborhood events returns Saturday, October 7, 2017: the fall Shaw Open House takes place from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Shaw Open House invites the entire city to visit Shaw and learn about the unique bars, restaurants and businesses that make it one of DC’s most exciting and popular neighborhoods. 

 

As part of Shaw Main Streets’ ongoing #LoveShaw campaign, Shaw Open House gives visitors the opportunity to experience each location through sampling, promotional activities and free gifts.  Printed ‘passports’ usher visitors from merchant to merchant for a #shawesome afternoon of fun and entertainment. Free entertaibment will include face painting, selfies with #loveshaw lips characters, fire performers, stiltwalkers, live Jazz music, meet and greet with The Hammermen of DC, and much more.

 

This installment of Shaw Open House will focus on the northern half of the Shaw Main Streets service area, located between Rhode Island Avenue and Barry Place and between 6th and 10th Streets, NW.  Here you will find some of DC’s most beloved restaurants, bars and retailers, opening their doors and offering tastes and experiences to all passport holders:

Attendees can pick up their free Shaw Open House Passports at two designated locations: Bazaar Spices and Ivy and Coney.  At every business visited, attendees will receive a validation sticker that allows the bearer to enter drawings for prizes, such as gift certificates, gift baskets and more from Shaw businesses, to be raffled at the Shaw Open House close-out party, which this year celebrates the Vote Your Main Street “Forge the Future in Shaw” campaign, a month-long campaign and national contest for the restoration of historic buildings in Main Street Corridors.  Guests will cast their first votes and learn how they can help “Forge the Future in Shaw,” throughout October. The closing party will be held from 5:00-6:00 PM at The Brixton, 901 U Street, NW, on the second floor. The prize drawing will be held at 5:30 PM.

 

Attendees can look forward to an afternoon full of freebies, fun, and special offers, including facepainting for kids of all ages, cocktail samples, lots of free bites and an array of specially curated experiences.
